Infingame: what actually makes a game work in a sweepstakes environment

After tracking performance across its sweepstakes-focused game catalog, Infingame, a leading aggregator in the iGaming industry, finds that the titles built for real-money casinos rarely translate directly, and breaks down what does.

Infingame has shared findings from its internal performance data, looking at what separates games that build repeat engagement in sweepstakes environments from titles that underperform despite strong results elsewhere.

The sweepstakes model has become one of the fastest-growing distribution channels Infingame serves. The company's observations point to a recurring pattern: moving a successful real-money slot or table game into a sweepstakes lobby unchanged does not guarantee the same level of player engagement.

"Operators kept asking us why a game that was a top performer on their real-money brand was landing in the middle of the pack on their sweepstakes brand," said Jana Filagina, Head of Commercial at Infingame. "Once we looked at the session data side by side, the answer wasn't about the game being worse. It was built for a different relationship between the player and their money, and sweepstakes players don't have that relationship."

Drawing on session-level observations from its aggregation ecosystem, Infingame identified four recurring patterns among titles that generate stronger retention in sweepstakes environments.

Sustained play matters more than high-value individual rounds. Across Infingame's sweepstakes-side catalogue, players tend to engage through longer sequences of lower-value interactions than in comparable real-money environments. Titles that maintain momentum through frequent feedback, smaller wins and steady pacing therefore tend to hold attention better than games built primarily around high-stakes anticipation.

Visible progress changes how winning feels. Infingame's observations suggest that sweepstakes players respond particularly well to visible, frequent indicators of progress. Rather than relying exclusively on anticipation around a single large outcome, successful titles give players more intermediate signals that something is happening.

Onboarding friction is punished harder. New sweepstakes players appear particularly sensitive to unclear mechanics, overloaded interfaces or additional steps before gameplay becomes intuitive. In many cases, they are still evaluating the platform itself during that first session, meaning friction inside one game can affect their perception of the wider casino experience. Titles that communicate their core mechanic quickly have a better chance of turning initial discovery into continued play.

Return mechanics can outperform additional complexity. Infingame sees stronger repeat engagement around titles that give players a simple reason to come back. Adding mechanical depth alone does not necessarily produce the same effect. For sweepstakes audiences, a clear reason to return tomorrow can be more valuable than additional layers of complexity within a single session.

For operators, the findings point to a different way of evaluating content for sweepstakes portfolios. Historical GGR or ranking data from real-money casinos can provide useful context, but it should not be treated as a direct predictor of sweepstakes performance.

Instead, Infingame recommends looking more closely at first-session continuation, repeat visits, rounds per session, interaction with progression mechanics and performance among newly acquired players when deciding which titles deserve long-term lobby visibility.

"There probably won't be one mechanic that defines sweepstakes," Filagina concluded. "What matters is being able to see what players actually respond to, test different content quickly and adjust the portfolio based on behaviour rather than assumptions. The operators that get this right won't necessarily have the biggest lobby. They'll have a lobby where more of the content has a clear reason to be there."
