Bally’s Media operates the Bally Sports Live and Stadium sports streaming services. Bally Sports Live is a free live streaming app that allows sports fans to engage with their favorite events in real-time while fostering interactive fan communities and earning rewards for activities. Stadium, a joint venture between Bally’s and Silver Chalice (owned by Jerry Reinsdorf, who also owns the Chicago Bulls and White Sox), is a free advertising-supported streaming (FAST) sports network distributed through partners such as Samsung TV Plus, Amazon Fire TV and Prime Video, Tubi, YouTube TV, DirecTV and Fubo. Sports and events that Bally Sports Live and Stadium broadcast include Minor League Baseball, Savannah Bananas, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, GLORY Kickboxing, AVP Pro beach volleyball as well as betting shows.
What About The Role?
We’re looking for a Principal Engineer, Apps to own the playbook for our cross-platform client engineering team and lead development of Bally Sports Live across mobile, web, and connected TV.
This is a hands-on, high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments where performance, scale, and user experience matter. You’ll architect and ship media-heavy, real-time video streaming experiences and interactive features that keep fans locked in from kickoff to final whistle.
Early on, you’ll quarterback work with external development partners, then help us build and scale in-house capabilities as we grow. You’ll set the technical standard, coach the team, and make sure our apps stay fast, reliable, and ready for peak traffic moments.

What You'll Do

Lead and mentor a cross-platform engineering squad shipping experiences across iOS, Android, Web, and CTV using Swift, Kotlin, Next.js, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and BrightScript.

Work shoulder-to-shoulder with Product, Design, and Backend teams to deliver low-latency video streaming and interactive gaming experiences that perform under pressure.

Design and evolve a scalable client-side architecture that can handle traffic spikes, big moments, and multi-platform delivery.

Ensure our apps stay fast, accessible, and rock-solid across every device fans use to tune in.

Partner with DevOps and Backend teams to integrate APIs, leverage AWS services, and keep CI/CD pipelines running smoothly.

Set the standard through code reviews, technical leadership, and mentorship, building a culture of ownership and craftsmanship.
What We're Looking For
-
10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience shipping high-scale consumer apps, ideally with video streaming in the mix.

Deep technical chops in one or more of the following:

Mobile: Swift (iOS), Kotlin (Android)

Web: JavaScript, Next.js, HTML, CSS

Connected TV: BrightScript

A genuine passion for sports, streaming tech, gaming, and digital media- you understand what keeps users engaged.

Excellent experience working with AWS services including API Gateway, CloudFront, S3, Lambda, and EKS.

Comfort building modular, event-driven, API-driven architectures, especially for media-heavy platforms.

Solid understanding of video streaming fundamentals: playback, buffering, delivery, and performance tuning.

Experience working in Agile environments, translating product vision into executable engineering plays.

Proven ability to optimize performance and SEO for high-traffic platforms, with a strong grasp of Core Web Vitals.
Nice-to-Have Power-Ups

Experience with ads integration (Google Ad Manager, MoPub, or programmatic solutions).

Exposure to AI/LLM technologies and how they can enhance personalization or content discovery.

Prior experience leading or managing engineering teams.

Familiarity with accessibility standards and multi-region or localization support.
